About
From you, From There is about developing a new tool of communication between artwork and audience (as well as between postcard sender and recipient). By picking out a postcard, submitting a message, and including a recipient's address, anyone can use these postcards to say anything, and the message behind each print is thus easily appropriated by the someone other than the artist. In a way, the artwork speaks directly to a very specific individual, with a bit of help from an anonymous buyer.
Art for you, no matter who you are:
Art intended for any and all individuals isn't a particularly revolutionary idea, but it's one that seems to be frequently under-appreciated and overlooked.
From You, From There is in part an attempt to breach the 'Art for Gallery' sentiment embraced by much of the art world. Each postcard is hand-drawn and hand-printed by the artist, produced in limited edition numbers. Each postcard is a piece of art: art that is meant to be available and affordable for almost anybody.
A kind of physical-communication appreciation society:
The Internet has rendered physical communication less and less prevalent; the majority of us get a far greater amount of e-mails each day than letters or packages, and we talk on the phone more often than we meet up with friends for a cup of coffee. But even in a world where so much is digitally possible, traditional means of communication still hold relevance! Think of the excitement you feel every time there's an actual letter sitting in your actual mailbox (and one that's not a bill). It's a much different experience than checking your email.
From You, From There is an attempt to remind people of the beauty in simple physical gestures, like mailing a postcard.
Metaphorical Travel:
Travel is timely, expensive, and necessitates a certain amount of planning. However, nowadays we've found a number of ways to imaginatively travel (thorough television specials, digital walk-throughs, picture books, travel guides, etc). From You, From There offers yet another way you can symbolically get away: a physical souvenir of your imaginary journey!
And maybe once you've sent or received a postcard from a metaphorical trip, you'll be persuaded to go out and take that real trip!
